Mama, can I dance for God?
As a former music teacher, I know how children naturally gravitate toward the rhythm in music. Research has shown that babies come into the world having heard the rhythmic pattern of their mother’s heartbeat while in the womb. Let’s be honest, most humans can’t resist clapping, snapping, humming, and/or singing when hearing the steady beat in music.
God wants us to show our love for Him with expressions of praise and thanksgiving. David, who wrote most of the book of Psalm, loved to dance and play music for the Lord. David felt such an overwhelming joy that he wanted to celebrate God through worship with song and dance.
So, don’t resist a child’s spontaneous instinct to move when they hear music. Provide them with tambourines or any other percussion instruments. When I was a young child, my instruments were the pots and pans. What instruments did your parents provide?
Play worship music and allow children to dance and play their instruments to the beat. Oh yes, you will wish and beg for quiet time. As with other plans you create in your day, arrange specific times for musical activities and dance!
