“You know what?”
Falcon was staring at me. Kael was staring at me. Wayk, Gator, and Trace were all staring at me. Raven looked up at me with his wide, blue eyes, brighter than the sky at noon.
“I…uh…”
One level to go. Everyone shifted their feet. Fingers flexed and gripped their weapons. Eyes blinked. My chest pounded. I swallowed, trying to stay calm.
“I have a plan.”
The elevator came to a halt. My heart pounded in my throat. The stick felt hot and rubbery as I shrank it to fit Raven and handed it to him for something else to cling to. I stared at Tracer. He stared back.
“Run like Hell’s going to scramble you for breakfast,” I remember saying.
There was a clunk of machinery, and the doors rumbled open.
