After all the horses were accounted for, we saddled and mounted for our ride back to the ranch headquarters. I was asked to take the lead behind the head cowboy. That was simple, as I just had to stay on the path that led us back down the mountain. Riding back down the trail, reversing the hoof imprint, I had time to do a lot of thinking. I thought about broken hearts, peace, and forgiveness in my own life. I thought about how we all need each other. I thought about how hurt often turns into anger. There seems to be a ripple effect of anger that crosses from one generation to another.
That day the words why can’t we treat one another, as we want to be treated took on a deeper meaning for me. After all, we are all God’s creation. We were created to live in love, peace, and harmony, not conflict and greed. We are all woven together from the same strand of DNA, the thread that runs through our soul, and connects us directly to God Himself.
Reflecting on the past was humbling and it made me more appreciative of the blessings in my own life. Once again, I thanked the good Lord for just being able to walk. How grateful I was to have the endurance to be able to ride horses once again. I realized that I was blessed to be in good health. If you have good health, you are rich.
