Finally, they settled on Dr. Jonas on Washington Square Park. After Kate’s first session, Georgina asked Kate what she thought of her. “I like her all right, but I don’t think she’s very smart and she’s kind of a hippie with big ugly feet and she wears sandals.”
“Big ugly feet—huh. She can’t help that. But why do you think she isn’t very smart?”
“It’s a feeling I get from her, like she’s skating along the surface and being a technically okay therapist but not letting anything touch her. I don’t feel the click with her.”
“Do you want to find someone else?”
“I’ll give her a chance. We’ve only had one session.” And she went on seeing Dr. Jonas for the better part of a year until Georgina heard that she wore those sandals year-round and put her feet up on a hassock in Kate’s face every session. “Who sticks their feet in a client’s face?” Georgina said to Cyrus.
“Forget her feet. The point is, is she helping Kate?”
