Colin kept her on a pedestal for so long,
she’d grown used to it and didn’t want to give it up. She knew the danger
involved in being idealized: it’s an out-of-balance situation that can’t last.
The opposite feeling is naturally evoked in the name of balance. Then the
idealization had ended—and Colin began finding fault with her. Down she’d
tumbled, like every other idealized creature.
