What will you learn from this book? You will learn to identify a number of plants and animals. You will learn that even deep in the forest half of the species are not native. Recognizing that there is a problem is the first step to solving the problem. Can you identify poison ivy? These 3D pictures will help with that identification far more than a 2D picture would. The forest that we will walk in is characteristic of the US north east and Canadian south east. Your best viewing of the 3D pictures is with a colour device and red/blue 3D glasses. However the book is still useable without colour or glasses since every picture is also presented in 2D.

Author Biography

LIFE EXPERIENCES: I live in the forest of Ontario, Canada, on the edge of a lake. I was never able to decide what I wanted to do when I grew up. I have been a skydiver, barefoot water-skier, paramedic, college teacher, software developer, chemist, fisherman, pilot, aircraft builder, and an author. I have flown the plane I built, a two-seater STOL (Short Take Off Landing) aircraft, from coast to coast in Canada. EDUCATION: I studied at Niagara College, Waterloo University, McMaster University, Brock University, and the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. FUTURE PLANS: I am currently working on a novel tentatively called "Robot Wife".

The Most Fun

Of all the software, ebooks, and audiobooks that I have created, the “Walk in the Forest” series of ebooks were the most fun for me. It is not surprising, putting a biologist in the forest with a camera; pure joy. I set this book in the area that I live in. The plants are common to the US northeast and Canada’s southeast. Poison ivy is a difficult plant to learn to identify. It grows as a small plant, a shrub, and as a vine. The common “leaves of three, let them be” was supposed to protect the uninitiated from having an unpleasant experience when visiting the forest. The problem is that it is just about impossible to walk in the forest without brushing against ‘leaves of three’. Three is a very common arrangement of leaves in forest plants. The 4 books in this series will be a big help in learning to identify this plant with many varieties. The 3D pictures are particularly helpful. However, if you can’t see 3D all the pictures are also presented in 2D.

Let’s go for a walk down this road through the trees and examine the relationships between the species that we see and their ecosystems. The road will deteriorate into two muddy ruts with grass growing between them. At the end of the road we will enter the forest and find many interesting species. It is a certainty that we will see many invader species that are not native to the area and we will consider their impact on the natural environment.
