Father takes a deep breath, plops down on the sofa, and stares at his feet. “You weren’t supposed to know these things.” His voice thickens. “Sybil’s parents made a deal with a devil to mask her memories. She has no recollection of her early years in Hell.”
I sit across from him. “Why?”
“Sybil isn’t your average succubus. When she first came into her powers, she killed the first mortal who denied her.”
I shrug. It’s not uncommon for newly developing Lilin to kill when draining energy.
Shaking his head, he adds, “It’s not what you think. Sybil didn’t even kiss the boy. She simply looked at him, and he burst into flames.”
Damn. “A fire demon?”
“Yeah. She could give some of my creations a lesson or two. The Nakamura Demons thought it best Sybil not have access to such powers, so they contained them.”
Makes sense. The Nakamura Demons are dangerous enough. Hell, their skill with the deadly dark forces make the mafia seem like children playing. Maybe I should rethink this union with Sybil. She could be the worst fruit on her family’s tree. She’d be a worthwhile ally in my corner.
