Before I could ask another question, the man pushed me over the threshold, and the door slammed behind me. I blinked twice, trying to adjust my eyes to the murky fog. A bone-chilling breeze hit me, and I pulled my coat tighter around my body.
And then it happened. My thoughts shuffled like a deck of cards. Memories of my family vaporized, leaving me unbearably hollow. For the life of me, I couldn’t recall anything that had happened before I crossed into the realm. Well…almost anything. Unfortunately, I remembered I was a prisoner for an action against the state. Something told me I wasn’t alone in that deed.
