For our second date, we met at a local movie theater for Classic Movie Night. They were showing one of my favorite comedies, Beetlejuice. Ginger Smurf was waiting for me inside the entrance, wearing a suit and tie and holding a bouquet of white daisies. I remember feeling underdressed again.
He insisted on buying a gigantic popcorn and oversized drinks, despite my protestations. We found some comfy seats and settled in to watch the movie. I tried to think of any other time that I had someone give me flowers on a date, and I couldn’t come up with a single one. That small gesture meant so much to me, and I knew that I would always remember that about him.
After the movie, we walked to my car, and I drove him to the nearest bus stop on his route home. I thanked him for the movie and the flowers, and we agreed to get together again soon. Driving away, I couldn’t help but smile. Despite myself, I hoped that this could be the beginning of something special.
