I take the envelope up to my rooms and set it on my writing table, not sure if I want to open it. Finally I offer a small prayer for courage and slit the thick paper. I’m impatient and go directly to Chief Justice Garth’s conclusion.
I’m vindicated: The lower court judgment is reversed. God granted my prayer. Breath rushes out of me and sounds like a sob. I read the liberating words several times and hug myself: “My learned brother and myself are agreed in finding that the defendant has published this libel upon the plaintiff without any justification whatever, and that he was influenced in publishing it by malice.”
