“Have you seen Kali Churn Banerjee go into Miss Pigot’s bedroom?” Mr. Gasper asks.
“Oh, yes. I’ve seen him go into her room without any notice, and also coming out. And I’ve seen both of them coming out together. That is true.”
“Do you remember any unusual incidents?” Mr. Gasper asks.
“Nothing of importance to me. There was one Sunday morning after service. Miss Pigot asked me to come to her house,” Mr. Chuckerbutty says. “She wanted to speak to me about something. So, one day later in the week at about four o’clock in the afternoon, I went to her house and found the gate open. I went upstairs. No one was on the veranda, so I looked in the drawing room and saw Kali Churn Babu seated on a mat on the floor. He had on his trousers and shirt, but nothing else. No jacket or coat.”
“Was he alone?” Mr. Gasper asks.
“No. Miss Pigot was lying on a sofa, and Kali Churn sat near her leg,”
