Justice Norris says. “Mr. Hastie, I invite you to state any facts connected with Miss Pigot’s life you found to be unwomanly.”
“My Lord, I’m not referring to Miss Pigot as a woman,” Mr. Hastie says. “She was our Lady Superintendent. When I speak of her lack of external propriety, I mean anything inconsistent with the conduct we expect of our Lady Superintendent. I request Your Lordship give some regard to my view.”
“You’re entitled to your view,” Justice Norris says, “and may sometimes express it. But you didn’t express it in the postscript. You wrote a bold and naked statement. Move to your next question, Mr. Gasper.”
“I have no further questions, My Lord,” Mr. Gasper returns to his place.
Our turn at last. I hope Mr. Trevelyan breaks open Mr. Hastie’s testimony to expose his deceit and innuendos. Mr. Trevelyan looks at his notes and walks towards the witness box.
