“But Mr. Hastie isn’t behaving as a gentleman should.”
“Well, that won’t get you very far in court. He has the right to defend himself from your charges. If he proves any of the allegations are true, he will win the case,” Mr. Carruthers says flatly.
“Mr. Carruthers, you must tell me what to do!” The room feels like it is closing in around me. I try to calm my shallow breathing.
He leans back and steeples his fingers. “There is a possible alternative.”
