I’ve been here two months with no progress on my vindication. The mission shuns me. Reverend Hastie doesn’t reply to my notes. And, really, there’s no reason he should. He has complete control of the Female Mission. It’s as if the last thirteen years of my life never happened. If I don’t do something soon, it will be too late. But what options do I have?
I contact Mr. Steele about taking legal advice. I tell him the truth—matters regarding my employment need clarification. Mr. Steele recommends a solicitor with the impressive name of Arthur St. John Carruthers. I don’t know anything about him, but I have an interview with him this morning.
