Lucy managed to stand, smooth her skirts, and pinch her cheeks in the moment before Elias entered the room. Her heart pounded so strongly she imagined it throbbing out of her chest.
Seeing Elias standing just inside the doorway, Lucy felt suddenly dizzy. I’m not going to faint. I don’t swoon at the sight of a man. Though, if I was that sort of woman, I’m sure I would faint. Lucy waved her hand in front of her face to move a bit of humid air past her nose.
Elias stood tall in a well-fitting suit of clothing that accented his broad shoulders. His light hair was pulled back into a queue. He smiled broadly as he approached Lucy. Lucy’s heart pounded harder.
“Miss Brown, it has been too long since we last met.”
He bowed to her curtsey and reached out his hands for hers. Lucy trembled slightly. I hope he doesn’t notice.
