Lizzie looked at Geordie briefly before turning her gaze back to her linen, still sagging off the line from where she had dropped the edge.
“I need to brush off the dirt before it sets,” she muttered.
Geordie grabbed Lizzie’s elbow before she could stand. “I need to talk to you.”
She yanked her elbow away. “Well, I don’t need to talk to you.”
Lizzie stomped over to the rope line, attached the linen she’d dropped, and slapped her hands on it to remove the dirt off the edges.
How dare he? He’s been gone for two years with nary a word, and now he thinks I should be pleased to see him! Pleased to see another purse for Sophia, more like.
