“No, no. Of course not. So, your answer . . . ?”
“Is still yes.” Sarah smiled broadly. “And I don’t want a long engagement. I want to marry as soon as the banns are read. We can have the wedding here, and I already started the bridecake, so it will be ready as soon as may be. And Uncle John says he has a house we can live in.”
Jacob laughed. “How could you be sure I would ask?”
Sarah reached out to touch Jacob’s cheek. “I suppose because you asked me not to take other suitors, and I wanted you so much. So, I thought I’d start the cake, and if things didn’t work out, well, fruitcakes can last a very long time. I think it’s all the brandy.”
