“It appears I need to apprise you of a few legal points,” Perkins sniffed. “Firstly, we have the right to retrieve British subjects seeking to evade their duty to Crown and country, and we do not recognize the efforts men employ to disguise their national identity. Secondly, deserters are desperate, devious men. We are, in fact, doing you the favor of removing untrustworthy men from your ship. Besides, you’re in no position to oppose us.”
Geordie clenched his fists and turned his attention to the deck. Beside him, John’s fury radiated in waves.
“Have you found any deserters, Carson?” Perkins asked.
“Yes, sir. Two, sir.”
