Sarah wrapped her cloak around her and followed her companions outside. The snow was steady but light. Jacob helped his sister and her friends into the sleigh before turning to face Sarah, who was lifting her red hood over her head. Jacob settled the covering more closely around Sarah’s face, cupping the wool fabric around her cheeks. Looking into his eyes, Sarah realized there was only one answer to his question.
“Forgive me, Jacob. Can you remind me what we were discussing?”
Jacob flushed and reached for Sarah’s hand. “If my idea works out, I hope you will accept me as your suitor.”
Sarah’s face broke into a smile that made her cheeks hurt. “Nothing would please me more.”
