Holding her resentment close, Rama stepped outside and saw the gate to the goat pen was open. The three goats were gone.
Rama crossed both hands over her mouth. What was she going to do? Mama expected to use the goat's milk when she prepared the evening meal. “Please, Sarasvati,” Rama prayed. “Please send back the goats, or I’ll never be allowed to touch the parchment again.” For a minute, Rama expected to see the goats trotting back home. But nothing happened.
