“Naharpant promised me an education. We thought I could study and still do my duties at home.”
“How far away do you live from our Chowpatty neighborhood?”
“My brother’s house is in Girgaon. I’ll be on time.”
Rama nodded. “Very well, Godubai, you’re my first pupil.”
“Tell her,” Naharpant said.
“Tell me what?”
“Naharpant set a condition. His son is too young to be left alone during the day. I must bring the boy with me.” Godubai gave Rama a beseeching look. “He’s very small. I’ll push him in the perambulator. He’s a good boy. He won’t cause trouble.”
