The storm at Devil’s Pot was the first of many, but the only one to cause Rama concern. Mano, however, fretted and refused to eat. Rama was at her wit’s end trying to distract the child from her misery.
“Look, Mano. The sea gulls float on the ocean, just like we do. They’re not afraid.”
Mano shook her head.
“Mano, the sun’s out today. Let’s walk around the deck and look at the rainbows.”
Mano turned away.
“Mano, the ocean’s calm today. Aren’t the flying fish funny?”
Mano looked, pointed, and for the first time in weeks, laughed.
