Rama turned back into the house. If she waited until the dust settled, it would be too lonely.
“Mano, shall we play with blocks?”
The child eagerly began stacking the colorful toys. Mother and daughter spent the rest of the morning building and pushing down stacks of wooden cubes. Every time she built, Rama thought about their future. When the blocks fell, she wondered if she could surmount her despair.
