I’m a simple barrister. But I earn a comfortable living. I can afford a house like this one. Perhaps a better one.”
Rama laughed. “You’re very wise. No one debates with me like you do. You don’t mind my enthusiasm, or my public lecturing.”
“I applaud both,” Bipin paused. “Is there any way to dissuade Srinivas from this move to Dhaka?”
Rama shook her head. “He’s quite determined.”
“Strange how it came up after you rejected potential suitors. Will you allow suitors to visit you at Dhaka?”
“How could you think I would accept suitors?” Rama drew a deep breath. “None would think to give me a poem.”
Bipin’s face lit up. “Do you like the poem?”
“Very much.” Bipin won’t speak unless I do. Do I want him to speak? Deep breath. Okay, here goes. “I like to think we have the same close relationship.”
