“O Goddess of the earth and the three worlds,” Rama sang softly. “O Goddess Ganga, flow unto me.”
Rama planted her feet in the mud, held the rope in both hands, clenched her eyes shut, and squatted until her head was under water. What if I drown? She pushed herself up and opened her mouth too soon. Instead of taking in air, she choked on water and the soggy remains of a marigold.
“Ptew!”
