Nath was busy recording sales for the Three Sisters’ entire cargo while her officers tried to find a buyer who would take the vessel off their hands.
“Is it true you sail for Canton?”
Nath looked up from his work. A man dressed in somber Dutch clothing stood near his elbow.
“Yes, as it happens.”
“Still selling your ship?”
“If the price is right,” Nath replied. “Are you interested?”
“Nee. Everyone knows she’s full of holes.”
Nath grunted and turned his attention back to his notes.
“Better to sail a full ship than an empty one,” the Dutch man commented. “The ague is bad this time of year. Is anyone sick?”
Nath turned to give the man his full attention. “Do you have a name?”
“Bakker.”
“May I be of service, Meneer Bakker?”
Bakker chuckled. “Forgive me, but you have a terrible accent.”
Nath swatted a mosquito, out of patience with this man. “Is there business you wish to transact?”
