“I wish you well, my friend,” Elias said, raising his ale to his friend before taking another sip. “Listen, I want to introduce you to my sisters. I’ve engaged a couple fiddlers and am putting together a small party this evening.”
Nate looked over his tankard, raising his brows. “Which sister shall I select?”
“Does it matter? Personally, I recommend Betsey because she can be good company when she isn’t being a snob. She’s a bit like my mother in that regard. But my other two sisters will be there as well.”
“I never thought of you as a matchmaker.”
“Hardly. You’re a reliable fellow. Ambitious. My sisters could do worse, and so could you. You need to marry, and a connection with my family will be good for business. Anyway, wash the stench of seaweed off and come by the house in a couple hours. We’ll dance a bit and play some cards.” Elias gave his friend an appraising look. “Unless you’re afraid my father will disapprove?”
Nate chuckled. “With the money I’m making for him, I should hope he’ll be glad to see me.
“You know where the house is. It’s the red brick one just above the wharf.”
