Hasket paused at this. He had wondered, in fact. “For a long time, I thought you didn’t think I had the wit to plot a course. Then I realized you saw something in me. You thought I could see beyond single voyages and create a network of routes to keep our warehouses full.”
Captain Derby chuckled and slapped his knee. “You always were a smart one. Your brothers view each voyage as a separate enterprise. You’re like me. You see how things fit together. Hasket, I’m stepping aside from active participation in our business and naming you as head of our commercial affairs.”
