In the bedroom, Mrs. Dunne put Mary’s candle on the dressing table, and began quickly undoing the pins and ribbons holding Mary’s outfit together.
Mary’s wedding ring glinted in the candlelight. It’s a posey ring. I wonder if there’s an inscription inside.
Mary twisted it off her finger, only for Mrs. Dunne to interject, “That’s a bad omen,” and nod at her lack of wedding ring. “What if the master came in and saw you without it?”
“I want to see if there’s an inscription.” Mary squinted in the candlelight. “It says God Made Us Two One.”
“You can put it back on now,” George said from the doorway.
