“I’m so cold. You put that thing in me and I’m so cold all of a sudden.”
He nodded and tucked the blanket around her sides.
“I thought…I thought you had tricked me and were going to bring me back to that place.”
“What place?”
Her eyes filled with tears. “The warehouse, or whatever the hell it’s called. For a second, I thought you were one of them. And you were going to bring me back. Paralyze me and bring me back.”
Sean dropped to his haunches before her tearful face, her breath misting the steel tabletop with short, shallow gasps. He reached out and touched her face gently.
“The place where the guards tried to take you?”
“Yeah.” She laughed self-consciously. “I don’t know why, but that place scares the shit out of me. The building itself is terrifying. Like it’s alive.”
