You are beloved of God. We have talked about that in these letters. Here though is how God delights in you and your efforts. You are not apart from him, but united in purpose and hope for our world.
The Divine is not passive in this process. The Divine is like an artist who has a concept of what he or she is about but allows the subject to speak through the medium: through the clay, paint, metal, music, or dance.
A vital part of creation is the Divine’s waiting on us for our contribution to the future, good or bad. It’s up to you.
So, don’t sit around waiting for God to give you instructions. You have been invited to be present and to participate at this moment of creation.
Responsibility and Grace
The thought of so much responsibility makes some people draw back and take refuge in the idea that the future is decided, and everything is under control. That you will mess up, get it wrong, or just fail to act is not the end. We cannot help but come up short, because we have a learning curve. Sometimes we do things that are destructive and far from any kind of ideal. These moments are opportunities for grace to happen. Out of the chaos we create, God can bring a fresh perspective 74
and opportunity. The story of tomorrow therefore is not only written as a chapter in a story, but also as commentary. We learn wisdom, develop understanding, and grow in stature through our intentional participation.
