Quiet time
One of the secrets of good mental health is a daily quiet time.
Most of us have forgotten how to be quiet. I think a lot of us are afraid of silence. So much so that if we inadvertently sit in silence, we fall asleep.
Look around you at work, in the street, on the bus or train, and note what you see. You don’t see many people sitting, doing nothing and enjoying a quiet moment. No, you see everyone plugged into or playing with some device. We are addicted to distraction.
You can do yourself a favour just by remembering that all your devices have an off button, and using it. We all survived perfectly well before smartphones arrived. The world will not end if you disconnect for an hour, a day or even a month.
