THE DRUID STONE

“The stones are special and have powers to tell us of good or bad in our midst.” Holthar the high priest raised his hands turning his dark purple robe into the shape of a kite as he addressed his people.

Kane felt a chill as his dream took him back to Stonehenge. He looked at the group of heavily robed men. None were clean shaven and most had gray beards and long white hair. They seemed not to be able to see him. Kane was in front of the congregation looking up at Holthar. The priest’s eyes seemed to be glowing sapphire blue just like his stone.

Holthar continued. “The pillars come from the hills to the north.”

“Yes,” Kane acknowledged aloud. “They come from Preseli in Wales.” He looked around at his remembrance of his Stonehenge tour became a vivid presence. He was being ignored.

“When our circle changes its hue we will know to prepare for good or evil. We will know if danger is coming or if good fortune is to be for our harvest.” He lowered one arm pointing it directly at Morgan Kane. “And we must act. Our lives depend on it. Remember the colors of the rainbow. They have meaning for us at Stonehenge.”

“The colors are different in the morning and in the evening. Which ones are for us to consider?” Kane asked Holthar.

“Preparation must take place immediately with any color change.” Holthar stared with blue beams connecting his eyes with Kane’s.

“What do the different colors in the stone mean?” Kane stood up from his sitting position on the cold ground.

“You have to learn as we have learned.” Holthar brought his other arm to further align it in singling Kane out. “You have been chosen to prevent a world holocaust. You will learn the colors and their meaning.”

Kane could not break eye contact. “How am I to do this? What danger is the world in? Me? Why me?” Kane felt hands on his shoulders. Holthar was turning into mist. “What is happening? Why me?”

“Whoa, Morgan. Wake up. What kind of dream are you having?” Sorel had both her hands on his right shoulder.

“What? Oh, Martha. I had a crazy dream–about Stonehenge.”
