Mother Blue sighed. “I will provide all the help and direction Elle needs, but without the pendant’s power, there’s nothing I can do to heal her. I wish I could tell you for sure that she will get better, but I don’t know. It’s possible that the pendant’s power is still there, but Elle’s fearful thoughts are disabling it.”
“Can you use it to heal her?”
Mother Blue folded her hands in her lap and shook her head. “A few nights after the attack, Amadeus brought the pendant to me while you were all sleeping. I couldn’t make it work, no matter what I tried to do. I instructed Amadeus to return it to Elle’s dresser that evening.”
“So it is broken.”
“Not necessarily. The prophecy said that once the pendant’s power transfers to the chosen one, I will never be able to control it again. It could be another sign.”
“Okay. But there has to be something we can do,” Grandma Statler said.
“If there were, I’d have already done it. I’m sorry Emma, but you need to understand she may never get her voice back. The Zorins may have permanently damaged her.”
Grandma Statler swiped at her eyes. “She had such a beautiful singing voice. I can’t bear the thought of never hearing it again.”
