Breathlessness, by the way, is a better source of inspiration than breath itself. And like you, human, I, fish, too, can control my breath. Just because I extract oxygen from water rather than air, through the gills rather than mouth, it doesn’t mean that I can’t benefit from the breathless revelations of self-imposed anoxia. And I believe I have. My keenest insights would come when I would swim entire rivers on a single out-breath. But enough drumming and stridulation!
