When you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
There is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe … The soul of the world is nourished by people's happiness.
Yet ‘there is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure’.
The Alchemist (1988) Paulo Coelho
The failure could lead to life imprisonment; the failure could lead to bankruptcy; the failure could lead to death; the failure could lead to total devastation. If people have no fear of failure, if they are prepared to sacrifice whatever they have for a vision to eventuate, they could achieve the dream of nourishing the soul of the world with people’s happiness.
The one devoid of devotion to the world’s wellbeing is an animal.
Nonviolence is the supreme devotion to the world’s wellbeing.
Where there is a devotion to the world’s wellbeing, there is a victory.
A few recent events triggered a new vision in my mind; I thought my vision, my dream, my desire originated in the soul of the universe for people’s happiness. Hye-jin and I went on a Trafalgar tour to visit the Canadian Rockies by bus and train. Our companions were people from many different countries of Asia, Europe, USA, Canada and Russia. I thought I was in a small world where people from all countries of the world had merged; people were enjoying the travel together forgetting the differences in their culture and the countries from which they came. While the tour director was discussing the unmanned border between Canada and USA and dwelling on war strategies of various countries during the last world war, I was imagining a world with no demarcating borders between countries.
Just at this time, the head of the state of a major country requested the head of the state of another country to revert to the boundary that country had 45 years ago. He pleaded this would ease the tension between that country and her nearest neighbour. I wished that we could ask all countries to return to the boundaries of 2000 BC—in other words, ask all countries to forget about the boundaries they have with their neighbouring countries. Then there would be no need to spend on maintaining arms and ammunition to defend borders or attack other countries to win more territories, or meddle between countries and attack a country without approval from the United Nations Organisation.
Next, Hye-jin and I went on a Holland America Cruise touring Alaska and Inside Passages. This was the first time we had the experience of staying on a ship for eight days. The ship seemed like a new home for us. When the ship stopped at places like Juneau and Ketchikan, the passengers freely went on excursions ashore. The ship, Volendam, seemed to be another new world to me. In this small floating world people from different countries assembled without caring about the differences between the countries from which they had come.
