I crept down the first set of stairs and continued down the second set of steps, guessing that slaves wouldn’t be placed with the other sailors. Standing in the shadows, wondering what to do next, I heard the muffled sounds of chains, and followed the faint noises until I was standing outside a door. I decided there wasn’t much to do other than take a chance, so I drew my sword and cautiously opened the creaky door.
I found myself staring into the eyes of a chained boy, not much different than myself. We were about the same age, and shared the same dark looks. The main difference was the strange robe he was wearing for clothes. He looked astonished to see me, but I quickly put my finger to my lips, motioning for him to stay quiet.
