“Do you have to leave again tonight? Please hurry back. I get scared down here by myself,” she said, and pulled her blanket tighter around her shoulders.
“I will be back very soon,” I promised, and kissed the top of her small head. Earlier in the night I had been forced to leave my little sister and search some palace rooms for blankets, as the weather had become far too cold for us to survive the nights without any coverings.
I left our alcove and stealthily crept through the main tunnel, careful to count the arched entrances so that on my return I would be able to find my sister within this maze of tunnels that held the tombs of the dead.
