Benefits
This island has an unseen blessing. It is made of clay, for sure, which makes it stink like sulfur. But look at the benefits it gives to all these creatures! The sulfur pools are therapeutic, and the clay helps to heal injures. additionally, the clay leaves colored imprints wherever it dries. And it does give beautiful colors to these turtle shells!

Topsey
On the following day, the turtle rinsed the clay off in the warm pool, Clayann noticed that his shell had turned different colors where the clay had been applied. She thought it looked very nice!
She said, “Little turtle, we are going to call you Patches.”
Patches was happy that his shell was healed, but he felt a little funny because his shell now had different colors.
Clayann invited Topsey, Turtella and Mermaid up to her home. Patches was working at her home, building her a new hut for her clay pots. Patches was a very good handyman, and he was tying the wood pieces together for the wall of the hut. Turtella looked with surprise at Patches’ shell. She thought it was beautiful!
She said, “Patches, how did you get such a beautiful shell?”
Patches was embarrassed because his shell was different, but he told her the story of his patchwork shell. Turtella was wondering how she could get a colored patchwork shell. Then they all went back to Clayann’s home and had a snack.
Clayann said, “Come, let me show you around the island.”
She took them on a tour of the island and explained the sulfur pools, which she now called sulfur baths. She told them the story of her first night on the island and how a sulfur pool had kept her warm and cleansed her skin.
Turtella looked at her skin and thought, “I would like to have beautiful skin too.”.
She asked Clayann, “If I come back to Clay Island sometime, would you let me soak in the pool and get a colored treatment for my shell?”
Clayann said, “Oh, yes! You are welcome to come any time.”
Topsey thought to himself, “I want to go adventuring, I don’t want to swim up here and wait for Turtella all day!”
Soon Topsey, Turtella and Mermaid said goodbye and headed home. When they got home, Turtella told all her friends about their trip, and she said that she planned to go back for the color and skin treatments. Her friends were naturally curious, and they wanted to go along with her. Soon all the ladies in Topsey’s Cove had beautiful colored shells, and their skin was so soft it glowed.
