I was a working girl all my life, either teaching school or working in the private sector. In the year 2000, I suffered a stroke which left me blind in my left eye. I retired in 2008, at which time I started doing things for enjoyment, such as baby-sitting my grandchildren, indulging in craft activities, volunteer work, and delving into my life-long passion of learning to paint. In the year 2016, I suffered a stroke in my right eye that left that eye blind also. I had lived successfully for 16 years with one good eye. Suddenly, at age 70, I had to start a new life as a totally blind person. I had no outlet for my creative energies. However, I wanted to tell my story and be productive in some way, so I turned to writing. My first endeavor produced a series of children's books entitled, Topsey the Blind Sea Turtle. This story tells how Topsey is able to succeed with help from his friends and family. I am working on a new science-fiction novel that addresses my concern with many humanitarian issues in today's world.
This Tivy, the little turtle born without any front flippers, could not swim. He could not even walk without front flippers! That spells disaster for a turtle! His mother and father had created the net bag like a backpack so they could carry Tivy here and there. Then Tivy's Grandpa Carmi came to town. Grandpa Carmi was a very smart turtle and he created a different way for Tivy to get around, which gave Tivy some independence. Have you ever heard of Magic Flippers?

Topsey
Tivy told Grandpa Carmi about the net bag that Father had made. He made it so that he and Mother Turtle could take Tivy to school. Tivy loved school. When they got to the Turtle School, the other students remade the bag so Topsey could wear it on his back. Tivy could ride in the bag on Topsey’s back and he used his eyes to navigate and Topsey used his flippers to swim.
