The Shield of Self-Worth
True confidence doesn’t come from stopping others from teasing you; it comes from knowing your own value. In this scene, Angler Fish stops "minding" the teasing because she finally understands that her perceived flaw—her heavy teeth—is actually her greatest superpower. When you know your own "why," the unkind words of others lose their power to hurt you. However, the story also reminds us that even when we are confident, we still have to set boundaries, just as Angler Fish tried to do by changing her swimming spot to avoid a negative environment.

when Angler Fish went out for her swim, she didn’t mind at all when Little Eel teased her.
She said, “Little Eel, my teeth are very special. There is a reason I have so many teeth, and Mermaid says that they are supersonic vibration detectors.”
But Little Eel continued to tease Angler Fish saying, “Vibration detectors! It’s just all those toothpicks rattling around.”
Angler Fish decided to try something new. When she went for her swim, she decided to swim way up to the top of the water. She thought surely Little Eel could not find her up there. Little Eel was very curious and when he didn’t see Angler Fish taking her swim, he wondered where she was.
The next day he went to Mermaid’s clinic early and waited outside, he hid in the sea grass. Angler Fish came out of the clinic and started swimming up to the top of the water to keep away from Little Eel.
Little Eel said, “Ah ha! Now I see what she’s up to!”
