Love Is What Matters

Vincent Georgio Origiani was born in southern California in February of 2120. As he was being delivered, the doctor and nurses grimaced, another deformed baby on their hands. So many children were born with deformities. After the baby was cleaned up the doctor examined him carefully.

One of the nurses thought, This child will never survive.

When the baby was presented to the parents, the doctor explained the situation. The entire right side of the baby’s skull was deformed. The bone had not grown naturally together, so there was a jagged hole on the right side of his skull. It looked hideous. What was visible was a tangled mass of red, blue and purple blood vessels protruding outward, covered by a thin layer of translucent membrane. The doctor explained that if the membrane was ever disturbed or disrupted, the baby might not survive because he would have a bleed-out in this area. He said that he would put a bandage of Tight Skin over the area to protect it, but the bandage would have to be changed daily. Additionally, the baby should not sleep on his right side for danger of scraping or putting too much pressure on the area and risking a bleed out. The parents, Mario and Gina Origiani, listened carefully to the doctor’s instructions and then thanked him, with sad faces, as he left to see other patients. Gina looked at Mario and burst out crying.
