Below is an Amaging™ Affirmation you may want to use to help you practice new habits.
Figure 12 New Habit Affirmation
Step 1: What do you really want?
I want to practice new habits more consistently without getting stuck by perfectionism.
Step 2: What is your growth mindset to support this?
Practice makes better. If I want to be successful, I will probably make some mistakes along the way; I can learn from my mistakes without getting stalled by them.
Step 3: Why do you want it?
This new habit will give me fulfillment because ________________. It will help me do ___________________________, and I will feel _______________________.
Step 4: What new hat will you wear? Describe what type of person you are willing to become.
A doer. Reading, planning, and reflection are good, but action is better, and even baby steps can move me closer to a consistent habit. A “fruit picker,” someone who can grab “low-hanging fruit” and discover quick, small wins to help move my new habit forward and boost my enthusiasm. A problem solver, someone who finds ways to overcome barriers and get back on track. My biggest fan, someone who cheers me on, practices self-compassion, avoids thinking with the enemy (see chapter 7).
