“Senti. Listen. This might sound crazy, but I suggest we go back to the Victoria Falls Hotel.” Eugenio holds up his hand as if to ward off comments. “Think of it. There are so many tourists there. We’ll park in the car park. No one locks their car in this country. It’s getting dark now. If there’s an open car and the bonnet is cool, that probably means the people are going to be spending the night there.”
I stare at my husband. Even I’m taken aback by the direction this audacious idea is taking.
Looking around at the astonished faces, Eugenio continues. “Cirillo, Esther, and Vera can sleep in a car that they locate. Paolo; you, me, Iucci, and Bambi can sleep in my car. Before anyone disagrees, have you got a better suggestion?”
No one answers.
“Right then. Let’s give this a go. At least we can use the toilets in the hotel to get ready for bed, huh, Cirillo?”
The only response is a grunt as everyone is still absorbing this suggestion.
“Questo e un piano stupido. This is a silly plan,” mumbles Esther, but gets into the car with everyone else.
