We’re now mingling with the top echelons of the Rhodesian colonialist society. Government and diplomatic wives comprise a large part of our customer base. Sir Raphael “Roy” Welensky is in power in 1957, as the second Prime Minister of the Federation.
“Yes, the blacks,” Eugenio responds tight-lipped. “I overheard a conversation last night whilst you were powdering your nose. It says here in the newspaper that Welensky is in constant discussion with the British government. They’re the ones pushing for a black majority rule but he’s not of the same opinion. Interestingly, there’s a statistic here. It says that the white people only make up three percent of the seven million population of the Federation.”
“That’s … a small number.”
Eugenio strokes his chin nodding in agreement.
“What does that mean for us?”
