Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia – 1956
“A personal invitation from Lady Dalhousie: the Governor-General’s wife …” I exclaim aloud, and my astonished voice has Eugenio sitting back contentedly. We’re in his office, located at the back of the shop.
“I’ve been asked to visit with her. I’m to take some rolls of material, and whilst there take measurements for a garment she wants made for the Opening of Parliament! Madonna Mia, what am I going to wear?”
“Huh?” Eugenio raises his eyebrows. “Don’t you mean what material choices you’re going to take?”
I shake my head. “I know we’ll work that out together. What I wear: now that’s going to be more important. It will have to be elegant but pretty for a morning tea visit. I will be a demonstration of our designs!”
