Meredith’s eyes blinked open in the early light of dawn. The first thing she did was confirm she and Zack were still at the Post Ranch Inn. The wall of glass revealed a calm ocean that barely seemed to be moving, a dreamy, layered image of blues meeting a horizon just warming up to pink. Yes . . . we’re still here in this incredible place.
The second thing she did was flip the blankets back to free her hand. There it is! The ring stared at her, or she stared at it and her heart leapt in her chest. It’s real, she thought. It actually happened. The ring, the blended knee, the proposal. And yes, She’d said yes. I said yes!
“Sparkling isn’t it?” Zack asked from his pillow.
She turned to beam at him.
“Actually, it’s you that’s sparkling,” he said with a laugh.
“You laughing at me, Zack?”
“With you, Mer. Always, with you.”
“Hee hee!” She exulted. “Oh my God! This is so fun!”
He laughed again. “Glad I could give you a fun day.”
“A fun life, you mean,” she retorted, growing quiet. “A wonderful, amazing life. The very one I wanted, and didn’t even know.”
