Forces of hate broiled into Catrin like a firestorm. Entering the Raven’s mind, she visualized herself hurtling through a black tunnel toward the rainbow-arched Wall of Lives, where threads of human lives wove into the tapestry of fates. For the first time in her life, she zapped through the portal into the Otherworld that dazzled with clouds of multi-colored specks of light coalescing into a black hole. There, she focused on transforming her arms into black wings. The stabbing pain of feathered quills piercing her skin made her want to scream. She pressed her lips together to suppress her outcries of agony and fury. Dark energy sizzled through her plumage, but she couldn’t contain the force. With all her might, she hurled what looked like a ball of lightning against the door. Instantly, shards of concrete blasted away from the door, the force propelling her back against the hard wall.
Dazed from the impact, she found herself on her back and the raven atop her. It pulled a strand of her hair with its beak, the tug making her yelp. She pushed the bird off her and then heard the clamor of footsteps and shouting men resonating through the large hole where the door had been blown open.
Looking up, she saw guards and gladiators gathering around her as Verus pushed himself through.
