In this first story - Sara, a little girl I created when I was young, who filled up dozens of journals I still have today - is introduced.
I created Sara because she was someone who reflected hope and happiness when felt nothing but sadness.Just as I did with my memoir, "Just Be" - "Just Be: Short Stories" takes my readers and survivors through the pain that is painted inside trauma survivors, however these stories also show what fictional writing can do with trauma healing. How it can create a safe space for someone to process the emotions that they are reading in another character, that very well may reflect what is happening inside them.

I blinked and a tear dropped onto the card remembering how many nights I sat outside his shop door, never opening it. Never laughing or talking. No invitation from him. The only hope I had lived in my imagination, creating happy scenes as I sat on the other side of that door, looking through.
