Hope in disaster
I live in east Tennessee and have often driven through the Smokey Mountains to North Carolina. I won't be doing that for some time due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. There is so much destruction, death, losses. It is hard to comprehend, but the news makes me believe it. We need to offer prayers for the people affected by this storm and also those are seeking to help those who have lost so much. We pray for protection and provision.

L ORD, we pray for people who are suffering, who seek to live in the shelter of the Most High, and find rest in the shadow of the Almighty, for you alone are their refuge, their place of safety. Rescue your people from every trap and protect them from every deadly disease.
Help them not to be afraid of the terrors of the night, or of the dread disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at their side, though ten thousand are dying around them, don’t let these evils touch them. If they make you, the LORD, their refuge, if they make you, the Most High, their shelter, let no evil conquer them, no plague come near their home.
LORD, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
